On May 16, 2019, according to Forbes Magazine, Amazon has surpassed Walmart as the worlds largest retailer.

Amazon moved to #28 on the Forbes Global 2000 list of the largest publicly traded companies. The factors for the list include revenue, profit, assets, and market value, not simply retail and eCommerce sales. Nonetheless, Forbes has made it official as of the 15th of May, 2019. Walmart does however have 2.2 million employees, which is nearly four times that of Amazon, and more assets due to its large real estate portfolio.

Alibaba remains the third largest retailer behind Amazon and Walmart with total sales growing 51% to $56 billion in FY ’19. Big box stores Home Depot and Lowes come in at #126 and #234, respectively, according to the Forbes Global 2000 list. TJ Max is #394, and Ross is #671.
